On May 6, the Lafayette Choirs participated in their banquet and performed in their final concert of the year.
As one of the biggest banquets at Lafayette, the choir banquet hosted approximately 500 people.
Choir Booster Debbie Rightler said, “We had to bring 14 extra tables from the upstairs common downstairs to seat everyone. The crowd this year is huge.”
During the banquet, seniors picked up their alumni t-shirts and students picked up their letters, which were given to singers who accumulated 10 points by participating in choir activities through out the year.
Following the banquet the choirs reported to the theatre to take on their Broadway songs.
Sophomore Molly Collins said, “I was really nervous but I think it went well. All the groups sounded great.”
During the performance, Choir Director Michele Rodgers presented awards to most improved students and outstanding seniors, which are voted for by students in each class.
Winners included, Cecilia Dorhauer, Madie Gross, Katie Baum, Lucas Klein and Natalie Litwicki.
Rodgers said during the show that this year’s outstanding seniors and most improved students were extremely talented and deserved the honor.
After all groups had performed, a slide show was shown of the seniors baby pictures.
Junior Katie Walsh agreed, “I thought this concert was really fun and I like that it focused on the seniors because they deserve it.”
This year marked Michele Rodgers 25th year as a choir director so the Choir Boosters planned a very special surprise for her.
Accompanist Pam Krebs said, “We wanted to do something to mark Mrs. Rodgers 25th year so we invited alumni that were in choir to come back and sing our final song with us.”
The students also wrote thank you notes to Rodgers and they were presented to her at the end of the show.
Overall, the concert was well received by the audience.
Rightler said, “I thought the groups sounded very nice. I always enjoy listening to concerts because they are well rehearsed and the songs always keep my interest.”
