Now that the Major League Baseball season is upon us, it is important to call to mind those individuals that truly revolutionized the sport.

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier as he took the field as a player for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Being the first African-American to play the sport, his entrance into the world of baseball was not received well by fans. He was spit on, booed at and called names. Yet despite the negative criticism, Robinson persevered, becoming of one of baseball’s most talented players.
