Heather Kellenberger has good scents

Senior Heather Kellenberger has been working at Yankee Candle Company for almost two years. She also has worked at Scentsy, a scented wax company, for about four months.

“I just help people find the scents they like. I suggest complementary ones and then I check them out,” Kellenberger said of her job at Yankee Candle Company.

For Scentsy, Kellenberger distributes catalogs to people, walks to businesses and leaves her name at locations. Sometimes she will lead parties at people’s houses and play candle games, introducing the products.

Her favorite scents include lemon lavender, coconut lemongrass, pineapple cilantro and Jet, set, go!

“My mother worked at both of them before me. I met the people with her and I loved them. Basically it was all about connections. I only got the job at Yankee because I walked in one day to say ‘hi’ and they offered [me a job],” Kellenberger said.

Kellenberger’s mother Dawn Martin began working at Yankee Candle Company as a part-time job years ago, starting as a regular customer and becoming an employee, and she became a Scentsy consultant four years ago for financial reasons.

“I loved the fact that their products were flameless but yet [filled] my home with wonderful smells,” Martin said.

Martin reflects on how both have learned valuable skills at each business, with customer service, communication skills, sales, setting goals and achieving them.

“Heather has only been a consultant for four months and already she has received a promotion and a 5% raise. One proud mom here! That is what Scentsy is about, inspiring each of us to do better and we get to do this as a mom/daughter team,” Martin said.

These jobs help the two relate on many levels throughout the year. Martin understands Kellenberger’s experience at Yankee Candle Company. Their passion and excitement for Scentsy products and road trips are something they bond over as well.
“I am super excited about going to Vegas with her in July where she will get to experience our Scentsy Family Reunion,” Martin said.

Future plans Kellenberger is looking forward to include continuing her work on a flexible schedule as a Scentsy consultant in college.
