Out and About: Insomnia Cookies fulfills late night sweet cravings

May 11, 2015
Insomnia Cookies made its way to St. Louis in the Delmar Loop in early January. The idea of the late night delivery service bakery sparked when a University of Pennsylvania student and his roommates had a late night sweet tooth, but no bakeries were open. They started baking cookies in their dorm and started selling the cookies to everyone else. There are now over 50 locations along the east coast and the Midwest.
I had heard about Insomnia Cookies from a friend and I was curious about the whole ordeal. One night, my girlfriends and I had that late night craving and I knew just the place to go.
For some, driving to The Loop for cookies might seem extreme, but we had all been dying to try these cookies that many people were raving about. Once we got there and found a spot, the bright purple sign was hard to miss. I could see a couple sitting in the window with a glass of milk and indulging in their sweets. The first thing that caught my attention was the smell from right outside the store. There was a wide variety of cookies to choose from including sugar, chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, snicker doodle, white chocolate macadamia and more.
The menu didn’t stop there, though. Insomnia Cookies offers deluxe cookies, which are about twice in size as the others. The Deluxe Cookies you can choose from are triple chocolate chunk, chocolate peanut butter cup and s’mores. I wasn’t brave enough to tackle the size of the deluxe cookie, but it was tempting. Besides cookies, Insomnia Cookies offers brownies and ice cream sandwiches of a variety of flavors and toppings that can be put on ice cream.
All of the treats are kept in warming ovens by the registrar so that they are soft and warm right when you get them. While I wanted to try all the cookies, my heart told me to stick with snicker doodle, my go-to. And I’m sure glad I did. Another unique thing about Insomnia Cookies is their delivery service. Until the store closes, which is 3 am every day of the week, cookies can be delivered to your home.
Insomnia Cookies was a splendid experience and the concept behind it is even better.
