Out and About: Crown Candy delivers St. Louis classic

Located off Highway 70 near downtown St. Louis, Crown Candy Kitchen is the perfect dining destination as the weather begins to warm up. Whether you are craving a malt, shake, sundae, candy or a hearty meal, Crown Candy will rarely disappoint.

Crown Candy Kitchen was established in 1913 and has done little renovation to enhance the experience of a diner in the 1900s. People from the across the nation travel to St. Louis for many attractions, including this little kitchen with incredible food. If you are looking to satisfy a “sweet tooth”, Crown Candy offers a unique soda fountain, candy bar and home-made chocolate.

The Kitchen also serves lunch and dinner items including sandwiches, soup, salads and hot dogs. I personally love the sandwiches, they are thickly stacked and the bread is toasted to perfection. I also ordered one of the famous World’s Fair sundaes that I can only describe in one word – heavenly.

Although rich in St. Louis traditions, Crown Candy Kitchen is located in a statistically poor neighborhood, so it may be wise to venture out during the daytime. It is also important to note the large crowds Crown Candy attracts, especially during lunch hours, so plan accordingly.

Some items may appear highly priced, but after the whole experience, it will definitely seem worth it.
