April 3, 2014
Tired of that old, ugly dresser collecting dust in the corner of your room? Chalk paint is an immediate solution that can provide a vintage look to any piece of furniture in a few simple steps. It comes in a variation of colors that have an ability to tie a room together and give a fresh look. Chalk paint is inspired by 18th and 19th century décor, it is versatile, provides a matte finish and is extremely easy for anyone to use.
Tools: desired piece of furniture, brush, chalk paint, soft wax
1 Start with the underside of your furniture and slowly work your way up.
2. dip ¼ of your brush into the paint can, allowing more controlled strokes and less clumping.
3. Apply chalk paint to the furniture in strokes, spreading a variation of directions for a textured look. Go over each section with smooth, thick lines afterwards to provide a smooth finish.
4. Allow the paint to dry, if it appears too thin; apply a second coat to the furniture.
5. Once the piece has dried and has the desired look, with a stiff brush, apply generous amounts of wax to the furniture in swift, circular motions.
6. As you wax each section wipe all remaining wax off with a towel, wax is not mandatory but with give a more polished look to the furniture.
7. If you wish to make the furniture appear more distressed, rub with sandpaper after waxing in desired spots, or rub lightly with a towel while paint is still wet.
