Through These Halls: Senior spends summers in unique continent
While most teenagers spend their summers at the beach or hanging by the pool, senior Andie Kindsvater and her family travel overseas. They visit Africa every other summer for safaris and the best hunting in the world.
“It is a great experience and I love being able to be a part of a different culture. I spend three weeks in South Africa with my family, and we have gotten the opportunity to build relationships with some of the locals,” Kindsvater said.
Hunting in Africa is not just the average deer, Andie and her family adventure on safaris with wandering zebras, cheetahs, gembuck, kudu bulls and and buffalo. Once the Kindsvaters finish their hunting for the summer, they have the animals sent back to the United States to their home which can take months.
“My dad and brother do most of the hunting while my mom is passionate about the photography. South Africa has some of the most beautiful wildlife and landscapes in the world,” Kindsvater said.
This upcoming July, Andie and her family will travel once again to Africa for her last summer before college. Next fall, Andie will attend Kansas University and looks forward to more family bonding before heading off to Lawrence in August.
