For Winter Break 2012, students throughout the school have been talking about their exciting plans for this holiday season. While many students have different plans each year, others enjoy special traditions with their families.
Several students will be celebrating the holidays in a more traditional fashion such as Makenzie Johnson.
“My brother and I wake up at 4 a.m. every Christmas morning to watch A Christmas Story and we watch some other Christmas movies. Then we open presents,” Johnson said.
Along with many other students, sophomore Erin Newcomer will be spending the break at home with her family, celebrating her own strange traditions while doing so.
“We hang a pickle ornament on the tree every night before Christmas and whoever finds it gets to open a present early,” Newcomer said.
Breaking away from traditions, many plan to take an out of state trip.
Some students, like junior Jessica Brown, are planning to vacation with friends instead of relatives.
“I’m really excited,” said Brown, “I’m going up to New York City with some friends. I think it will be fun to go shopping and have some fun in a different city.”
Others plan to spend time with loved ones and go on vacation with their family members.
“I am going to Mexico for a family vacation to spend some time, get a tan and just chill,” junior Rob Highbloom said.
Sophomore Brianna Fahrenkopf will invest her time to extracurricular activities during their winter recess. Fahrenkopf will be traveling to Florida with the Lafayette Lancer Regiment to perform at the Gator Bowl.
“I’m so excited for the Gator Bowl. Every four years the band goes down to Jacksonville, FL with about eight other bands. I’ve never been to Disney World, so I’m pretty excited,” Fahrenkopf said.
Winter Break will start immediately after 7th Hour finals Friday, Dec. 21. Students will resume school on Jan. 4, 2013.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)

Brown won his bout against junior Kobe Rhymes of North Kansas City High School by fall in just 41 seconds. "Carter does what Carter does.
