Senior Alex Furman has found a new use for his backpack, making it an on-the-go carrying case, complete with cooling packs for the Monster Energy drinks he sells to the student body.
“I’m the king of the underground market at Lafayette,” Furman said.
Just before the beginning of second semester, Furman decided to try his hand at business management. Kicking things off with the selling of hackie sacks, he now offers Monster Energy drinks and other cold beverages to the student body, claiming they’re the “latest craze at Lafayette.”
Furman sold his “premium hackie sacks” for $9-15 and sells the Monster Energy drinks for $2 or three for $5. While it’s not quite lucrative, his trade does offer him an average 100-150 percent profit margin.
“It’s great that school is basically a prison,” Furman said. “Like, where else are you going to go when I’m the only one selling?”
Furman can be found every day during the latter half of second lunch period, offering his “ice-cold Monsters” next to the cookie stands.
