To some students, their hair is a cherished possession. For junior Alyssa Byars, it is a fun way to create an exciting personal style.
Byars says she changes her hair color about three times a year. For a few years, her hair was blue. Other times, she chooses a more traditional hair color.
“I’ve been dying [my hair] since I was in first grade. When I was younger, my mom or someone else would do it. Now, I just go to Sally’s [Beauty Store] and buy the color. I just figured I could do it myself, and it’s way cheaper.”
When she was younger, Byars’s hair was, “A mouse-y brown, kind of boring.” She added, “I don’t really know what it would look like now.”
Byars usually doesn’t plan out what color her hair will be next.
“I like to mix it up, you know, whatever floats my boat,” Byars said. “I think, ‘It’s just hair, it will grow back.’”
