Lancer’s Landing: New & Improved
The LHS school store, Lancer’s Landing, has recently been revamped with new snacks, spirit-wear and specials.
In adherence to new health recommendations for high schoolers, the school store has made changes to the food and drinks they sell.
30 new products, such as goldfish, oatmeal, Fiber One bars and sunflower seeds can be found in the store.
Though the healthier options are thriving, old favorites like candy and chips are still being sold.
New drinks include Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino canned drinks and a new fruit smoothie beverage called Odwalla. High protein milkshake powders are also being sold.
In order to draw new customers in, the school store has started having “Hump Day” specials. Every Wednesday, a product the store does not ordinarily sell is offered at a discounted price. In previous weeks, Sour Punch straws have been sold for 50 cents a piece.
On Fridays, “Friday Frenzy” is held, and there are similar special prices on candy.
The school store opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 8:10. It reopens at 10:55 for all three lunch periods.
Now, however, the hours have been extended every Wednesday. The school store will stay open from the morning until the end of third lunch. Students have more time to get supplies and snacks, and a greater profit can be made.
Tech savvy students can appreciate the school store’s latest selling tactic: A twitter account (@Lhsschoolstore1).
Karen Chorzel, the general manager, runs the account. Every Tuesday night, she tweets about the Hump Day Special, and the first ten-fifteen students to retweet get a free treat.
The school store is able to satisfy many needs, other than just a student’s sweet tooth. The inventory offers miscellaneous items and can accommodate all sorts of necessities.
“We’re not all about shoving candy down kids throats. We want them to know that we sell spirit wear, school supplies like pencils and spiral notebooks,” Chrissy Burt, general manager, said.
The Lancer’s Landing is located right next to the Commons stage, across from the far entrance into the freshman hallway downstairs.
Haley Gassel and Ellie Swoboda of the Digital Media staff interviewed Burt about the new spirit-wear.
