Update: Principal Colleen Fields said juniors who are testing will be released at 12:15 p.m. and will not be required to attend the virtual school day afterwards. 

On March 16, all four high schools in the Rockwood School District (RSD) will be offering a free American College Test (ACT) for juniors. Students that decide to take the provided ACT will be tested at their attended high school. 

Rockwood has made testing accommodations available to students in consideration of COVID-19 and previous testing. Three options are available to juniors across the district. 

Students testing on March 16 will be expected to arrive by 8:28 a.m. at their high school and will be released at 1 p.m. Grab and Go lunches will be provided for all juniors testing that day.

If a student is unable to take the ACT on March 16, RSD will not be offering a make-up date, however, the student may receive a non-transferable voucher to take the test on a different Saturday in another location that is more convenient for them. The voucher will be available for one use until July 2021. 

Students that have already received their desired score or those who are not looking to take the test again have the option to opt-out of the test. 

Junior Amber Wilt has taken the ACT a few times previously and is taking advantage of the opportunity to take it again free of charge. 

“I am taking it and just because I figured I should take advantage of the free opportunity they’re giving us rather than having to do it a different time. I’m taking it again because the repetition helps me improve my scoring and realize what areas I need to study to do better,” Wilt said. 

After the test, students are still encouraged to attend the virtual school day for the remainder of the time after arriving at home.  

Students will receive their scores in the mail three to eight weeks after the tests are received.
