Weekly sports update: Feb. 17-Feb. 23

In the quarterfinal game against Marquette, Johnson skates toward Marquette territory as his teammates cheer him on. The Lancers will play Vianney for game two of the semifinals on Feb. 29.

Boys Basketball: In the last week, the Lancers played two games. On Feb. 18, the team played Oakville and lost 50-43. They played again on Feb. 21 and lost to Hazelwood Central 68-42. Their current record stands at 10-14, and the team hopes to snap the five game losing streak in their next game against Confluence at home on Feb. 25.

Boys Wrestling: On Feb. 21, the Lancers traveled to compete in the Missouri State High School Activities Association’s (MSHSAA) annual State championships. Overall, the team placed fifth in the Class Four tournament. Evan Boren placed second in all of his weight class while Tommy Hagan and Jalin Reese placed third in their individual weight classes.

Girls Basketball: The Lady Lancers played two games over the last week. The team lost to Webster Groves on Feb. 18 in overtime with a final score of 68-63. They also lost to Nerinx Hall 45-34 on Feb. 21, but celebrated SHEro night, where varsity players honored a woman who inspired them. They look to gain a win in their two games in the upcoming week. Their first will be at Lindbergh on Feb. 25, and their second game will be at Pattonville on Feb. 27.

Girls Swimming and Diving: On Feb. 21, the girls varsity swimming and diving team went to compete in MSHSAA’s State Championship. The Lady Lancers placed eighth overall in the tournament. In individual events, Claire VanBiljon placed second in the 100-free while Dylan Moulton placed ninth, Sarah Higgins placed seventh in the 100-back, Lindsey Lohr placed 15th and Grace Tyson placed 16th in the 200 IM and Paige Daws placed 16th in the 100-breaststroke. In the relay teams, Paige Daws, Sarah Higgins, Grace Tyson and Claire VanBiljon placed second in their 200-medley and the 200 freestyle relay made up of Sarah Higgins, Dylan Moulton, Grace Tyson and Claire VanBiljon placed fifth in the State tournament.

Girls Wrestling: Like the boys wrestling team, the Lady Lancers traveled to compete in MSHSAA’s State Championship tournament. The team placed second over all girls wrestling teams in the state, and Faith Cole was a State champion in her weight class for the second year in a row. Emma Cole placed second in her weight class despite a dislocated elbow, and Josette Partney placed third in hers.

Ice Hockey: In the Semi-Finals of the Challenge Cup, the team played Vianney on Feb. 22. The Lancers won 3-1, with Sam Rubenstein, Justin Sprague and Jack Thomas each scoring a goal to gain the win against Vianney. To move on to the finals, the Lancers will have to win in a best two out of three playoff style, so their next game against Vianney will be on Feb. 29 at the Centene Ice Center.
