Girls cross country wins State competition; other Lancer teams finish seasons

Boys Cross Country: On Oct. 31, the Lancers ran in the Class 5 District 2 Finals, placing fourth as a team. Although that was just short of advancing them as a team for the State Meet on Nov. 7, two individuals did qualify. Sophomore Lukas Groenewald placed second with a time of 16:48, and senior Vikas Devulapalli placed sixth, running 17:06.80. They advanced to the State tournament the following weekend, and improved over 80 places from last year. Devulapalli placed 48th with 16:38.60, and Groenewald placed 54th with a time of 16:43.40.
Boys Soccer: In the District semifinals, the Lancers faced Washington High School on Nov. 2, winning, 4-2. In the game, senior Sam Manson scored two goals, and seniors Luc Fladda and Ben MacInnes scored one each. The Lancers went on to play Eureka in the District finals on Nov. 4 and lost in a close match that came down 4-3 in OT. Fladda once again scored two goals, and senior Mitchell Grant scored the other. The team improved greatly over the season, and ended the year with a 10-6 overall record. MacInnes and Fladda led the team in scoring
Football: The Lancers faced Northwest in the first round of Districts on Oct. 30, taking them down, 37-19. Senior quarterback Blake Micek had over 293 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Senior Mitchel Hoffman led the team with 98 rushing yards, and senior Pernell Garner led the team with 167 receiving yards. This momentum led them to the District semis, but the Lancers fell behind early to Fox, eventually falling49-28. Micek had 384 passing yards and led the team with 34 passing yards, and junior Owen Butler led the team with 99 receiving yards. The team ended the season 4-2 overall.
Girls Cross Country: In the Class 5, District 2 race, the Lady Lancers placed second, losing to Parkway West only by three points. However, sophomore Grace Tyson was the District champion for the second year in a row. Senior Hope Ware placed fourth, sophomore Elissa Barnard placed fifth, senior Katie Reed placed 17th with the team qualifying State. The Lady Lancers got revenge against the Longhorns at State at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course on Nov. 7 taking first place as a team. Individually, Tyson placed second, running 18:10.60, Ware placed sixth, running 18:31.60, Barnard placed ninth, running 18:43.60, Reed placed 24th, running 19:29.50. It was the Lady Lancers’ third State title for girls cross country.
Girls Volleyball: After a 13-1 season, the team headed into the District semifinals against Eureka on Oct. 27. They lost the first match 25-17, but were able to overcome the Wildcats in the following three sets, 26-24, 25-10 and 25-17. For the District finals, the team played faced a tough Borgia team on Oct. 29. In the regular season, Borgia was the only team to defeat the Lady Lancers who lost three sets to one. The Lady Lancers fell to Borgia once again, but were able to take them all the way to five sets this time, losing only by two points in the very last game. Their record on the season was an impressive 14-2.
