The Class of 2020 will be heading to Lafayette on Friday, May 15 to pick up graduation materials and return school items including Chromebooks and other school items.

“We are making this a completely contactless event. Students should wear masks and drive to school. We will all be wearing masks and gloves,” Assistant Principal Kirti Mehrotra said. 

All seniors were sent a video in an email explaining how the procedure will work, with a guide on how to place all items being returned in the trunk of the car. Seniors were instructed to have everything labeled and placed in a tied plastic bag, which allows for a quick and contactless exchange. 

The event will run from 2-5 p.m. and seniors should report in this order:
2-3 p.m.Last Names A-G
3-4 p.m. Last Names H-O
4-5 p.m. Last Names P-Z

Students should enter ONLY through the entrance with the stoplight and will be directed by school officials to move through several stations.

The stations are dedicated to picking up items for graduation and returning items to school. All items that students will be placed in their trunks. For example, seniors will get their caps and gowns, honor cords as well as NHS/National Merit or Bright Flight stoles.

In addition, all materials students need to return including Chromebooks and chargers, textbooks, sports uniforms and music department materials also need to be placed in the trunk before students arrive at school. Seniors who do not return the Chromebook and charger will not be able to pick up any graduation materials. Any student with questions should contact the senior office (Kelly Mehegan – 636-733-4111) before May 15. 

The email sent to all seniors through their Rockwood email gives very specific instructions for how items should be labeled. A link to that video is also available here. 

As a final community service project, the Class of 2020 is collecting donations for Rockwood’s program, “Got Your Backpack”.

“Our Senior Class prides itself on all that it has done for the past four years to support our community. ‘Got Your Backpack’ is in need of food items for families,” Mehrotra said. “Their stocks are low, so as a final gesture of support, I am asking all of you to donate a grocery bag full of canned food, cereal, oatmeal, peanut butter, jelly, canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, granola bars, dried fruits, nuts and etc. Place it in your trunk, and we will get it to our families in need.”

Many of Lafayette’s staff will be helping put donations in boxes to be collected the next morning.

“The way we have organized it we will be able to maintain social distancing and yet accomplish the task at hand. All our Lancer families need to do is follow the directions we have provided in the email,” Mehrotra said.
