Students, staff plan changes for 2017 Homecoming Week
Homecoming is approaching quickly, and Sophomore Advisory, Student Council (STUCO), Class of 2020 Assistant Principal Kirti Mehrotra and a other staff members have added a new event to the Homecoming Week festivities, and made some changes for the year.
“The Class of 2020 and Lancer Parent Organization (LPO) has taken on doing a 5K Ru/Walk that will benefit the Lawrence Strawbridge Foundation, and some of the money raised will also go to our current sophomores,” Mehrotra said. “We really want to cultivate desire to support organizations, such as the Lawrence Strawbridge Foundation. [The organizations] did a lot to support the school.”
Mehrotra and Sophomore Advisory also decided on using online parent pay portal for the 5K.
“We’re using it for the race registration, so students will receive a t-shirt and bib. It opens at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 1,” Mehotra said. “The race starts at 5 p.m. and will finish at around 5:45 p.m. Student Council will host games and a movie, and a food truck will also be present after the race.”
Sophomore Advisory came up with a lot of these ideas with the help of Student Council.
“It’s run by parent volunteers, but mostly student volunteers, which is a great way to show how strong the students of Lafayette can be when they come together for this great cause,” Sophomore Advisory President Samantha Frasier said. “And we’re also excited to see hopefully not just students, but family and friends from all around the community come and join us for this wonderful event.”
Students may register for the 5k Race today to secure a spot and help the Sophomore Advisory reach their goal of 500 families to register for this event.
Additionally, STUCO sponsor David Choate also helped to make some changes.
“Since there wasn’t much student involvement last year, we decided to bring back hallway decorations. It’ll be a good way to let students be more involved in Homecoming Week.”
