Picturing the flood: Waiting it out
A photo gallery of the flood as the river hits the hardest
Early Wednesday morning, May 3, the Meramec River crested and the people of Eureka experienced the worst of the flood. Cresting at 46.11 feet, this year’s flood levels are slightly higher than those of the flood in December of 2015. After sandbagging for nearly 72 hours, the people of Eureka waited it out as the water came flowing in. Although water levels are now beginning to recede, the Eureka community is still taking precautions against the threatening floodwaters.
