During a Dec. 1 game against Marquette, the girls basketball team huddles around their former coach to discuss their game plan. The Lady Lancers fell to the Mustangs losing 50-51. This season. the Lady Lancers will take on Marquette on Feb. 7 at home.

Sophomore Maddie Chester, a 5 foot, 10 inch guard on the girls basketball team, describes last basketball season with one word: energetic.

Last season, the team finished as District runner-ups and had a record of 18 wins and eight losses, their best record since the 2011-2012 season when they finished with 22 wins and five losses. This season, the Lady Lancers want to improve from last season.

“The team’s goal this season is to compete and reach our full potential as a talented, experienced team coming off of an amazing season last year,” Chester said.

She says her team’s biggest obstacle is stimulating a game-like environment in practice with intensity and communication.

Chester’s personal goal is to develop herself individually as a player while also working as a leader and contributing towards team’s efforts.

“My biggest accomplishment was branching out and coming out of my comfort zone and being able to have not only familiar faces in the hallway but new relationships and lasting friends off the court,” Chester said.

She is looking forward to winning hard fought basketball games with her best friends by her side.

The team’s next game is on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. in the LHS Main Gym where they will face off against Francis Howell North.
