With only five games left in the season, the girls varsity soccer team is looking to end the regular season on a high note.

“For the remainder of the season our team needs to work together and focus on the game at hand,” senior Jessica Smith said. “We need to get a couple wins under our belt for the last couple games in order to be effective in Districts.”

The teams last four games, three of which are away games, are against Lindbergh (8-6-2), Francis Howell Central (12-4-2), Incarnate Word (14-4-1) and Francis Howell (7-7-2). The Lady Lancers (9-7) have had an interesting season to say the least.

They won three games to start the 2015-2016 season but then lost four and then came around to win four. Despite the up and down results the team still maintains a winning record and are 6-4 in their last 10 games.

“Our defense this year has been a strong point for our team,” Smith said. “We are very young in the back but the freshman have stepped up and lead our team in the back as well as some of the juniors and sophomores playing in the back.”

The team’s goalies, Alyssa Jackson and Jamie Stein, have done a good job in front of the net and have combined for 68 saves on the season. Jackson has a 8-2 record as a goalie and has had seven shutouts, while Stein has a 1-4 record with one shutout. Thanks to a stout defense that has only allowed 15 goals over 16 games, the offense is able play aggressively and have scored 24 goals this season.

“As far as our offense goes, me being one, we have kept the team alive by scoring. You can’t win a game without scoring so the offense is imperative. Both defense and offense have been crucial in our success.” Smith said.

Smith is second on the team in goals with four, while freshman Cassidy Klohmann leads the team with six goals. Smith is also one of the best passers on the team. She has four assists which is tied with sophomore Meghan Conroy.

Be sure to go out and support the team as they continue their campaign and get closer to the post-season. The teams next game takes place at Lindbergh high school against the Flyers starting at 6 p.m.
