Speed limit will be lowered on Hwy. 109 near Lafayette
March 31, 2016
Wildwood City Council voted and approved on March 14 to change the speed limit from 45 mph to 40 mph between Shepard Road and New College Avenue right past Lafayette High School.
After Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) did a speed study, mainly in the area where most recently two round-a-bouts were put into use, MoDOT requested that the speed limit enforce a change of five mph decrease. The city of Wildwood was to enforce the legislation to ensure safety of drivers and the neighborhood.
Although the round-a-bouts were constructed to reduce the speed of drivers, no decrease was seen. Complaints were made by several whom wanted the safety of multiple schools and neighborhoods.
St. Louis Police officials have decided once the new speed limit goes into effect there will be a two-week grace period as in which they will give out warning citations only; another force that will be used to remind drivers is message billboards put up during the new time of change to remind them of the speed limit change.
