Girls soccer looks to underclassmen for results

With the season already underway, the girls varsity soccer team has played seven games and are currently 3-4.

They started out a perfect 3-0, but have since then lost four straight games. In the four game losing span, the Lady Lancers have let up nine goals compared to the four goals that the team has scored in the four game losing streak.

Last year the team had a record of 13-7 and the team consisted of six seniors, but this year is a completely different story. Lafayette only has two seniors to lead the team this year out of the 25 players that are on the roster.

The Lady Lancers have already had multiple games that underclassmen have helped Lafayette win a game. On April 9, Lafayette faced Eureka in a Conference opener that was dominated by Eureka the majority of the night and the game ended up going into double overtime. But, in the second minute of the second overtime sophomore Meghan Conroy lofted a cornerkick where freshman Cassidy Klohmann headed the ball in to claim victory for Lafayette.

“I think the challenge is just to be competitive each game which hopefully carries on in the following years,” Head Coach Tim Walters said.

The team will look to break free from their losing streak when they face Mehlville high school on April 12 starting at 6 p.m.
