Lafayette (23-0-1) faced their rival Eureka (17-7-1) on Nov. 3 at Eureka in soccer and came out on top with a 3-0 victory in the Class-4 Sectional.

This is Lafayette’s seventh time scoring three or more goals in a game and their first time scoring three goals in the playoffs. The first two playoff games for the Lancers were only one goal wins and could have gone either way, but this game was much different.

With 8:15 left in the first period of play, senior David Marshall scored a goal to put Lafayette up 1-0. It was all Lafayette after that. Goalkeeper Scott Caraway, junior, played solid defense by blocking multiple shots and kept Eureka off the scoreboard.

“Dude is a complete stud,” Patrick Carney, senior, said when he described Caraway.

Senior Matthew Scharf and sophomore Dominic Deprospero sealed the deal when they both scored a goal with less than 12 minutes to play. This was the first game, in the playoffs, where Lafayette didn’t go into any overtime periods or penalty kicks.

With a stout defense and an aggressive offense, Lafayette is shaping up to be a big time threat and hopes to continue their undefeated season. Their next game will be at home on Nov. 7 starting at 1 p.m. against De Smet (20-7-1) in the Class-4 Quarterfinals.
