The road to the State championship is not given to you, it’s earned. That’s what Lafayette’s girls volleyball team did on Oct. 31 when they won the Class 4 State championship against St. Teresa Academy beating them 25-19 and 25-11.

After falling to the Stars in the first set 16-25, Lafayette clawed it’s way back to take the second set and start a comeback victory.

The Lady Lancers took control of the third set when they went on a 10-1 run and held off their opponent to capture their fifth consecutive State title.

“Winning another State title was such an amazing experience,” Amanda Beaton, senior, said. “I wish I could start over and relive the whole season again.”

The Lady Lancers finished the season 25-7-5 and finished third in the conference standings. Even though Lafayette didn’t finish first in the standings, they still came out and won yet another State title.

“Winning 5 state championships in a row is hard to describe,” Zach Young, head coach, said. “It’s really kind of hard to wrap my head around.”

Lafayette will lose five seniors after another incredible season, but they have a great number of players, that are juniors and sophomores currently, that have good experience and can perform at a high level for next year.

“Every single one of those girls are like sisters to me and I couldn’t ask for better teammates,” Beaton said. “Winning State as a senior was definitely something I’ll never forget.”

Lafayette will rest for now, but when next season arrives look for Lafayette to fighting for another title.
