Starting this year, Missouri drivers will see a change in the driver’s license format.
To make it easier for police officers and authority figures to identify student drivers, anyone who is under 21 will recieve a vertical license. Once teens turn 21, they can trade in their vertical license for a horizontal one.
According to the Department of Revenue, new licenses will have security features such as special printing, laser perforations and bar codes. The state believes the changes will provide further protection against identity theft and fraud.
The state also plans to issue temporary licenses at license offices, and the actual license will be mailed to the owner about 10 days later.
For those concerned about pricing, the new licenses will be issued at no extra cost.
