On Jan. 26 the Freshman Carnival took place, where children ages 3 all the way up to 12 years had fun and played games.
The booths had a large variety of activities from face painting to the sack race. Assistant Principal Colleen Fields, coordinator of the event, said the most popular booths were the Lowes Workshop, the Lollipop tree and the Pig Race.
The Lowes workshop was a booth where children built various projects and was mainly popular among the older kids that attended the carnival. At the Lollipop tree booth children picked a lollipop and depending on the color on the bottom of the stick, they won a prize. This was most popular with younger kids because they were able to win prizes more easily.
This year, preschoolers attended in greater numbers than did grade schoolers. Due to high attendance of the event, revenue was high for the Freshman class fundraiser.
“I think we’ve far outdone what we’ve done in the past in terms of earnings. I don’t have a final figure yet but we’ve raised a substantial amount of money that will go to the Class of 2016’s senior activities,” Fields said.
The volunteers had fun as well; the night before, freshmen were put into groups of three and were assigned a booth to set up. The set up went quickly and many parents came to help during the night.
“Set up was super busy but actually really organized. When I first came in all I saw were piles and piles of boxes, but thankfully by the end I had a lot of fun,” freshman Elise Laarman said.
The day was full of fun experienced by both freshmen volunteers and the children who attended the event, leaving the kids excited for next year’s carnival.
