Monday, Aug. 27 was the first Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) late start day of the nine that have been built into the 2012-2013 school year. Instead of school starting at 8:16 a.m., class started at 8:40 a.m. giving students a little extra shut-eye before the day began and teachers some time to work in their course-alike PLCs.
“I liked the late start,” junior Katie Dodge said. “I got to sleep in a little longer than usual.”
The PLC late start was put together by a committee of administrators, teachers and parents to allow staff to meet in their PLC groups and develop plans to improve student achievement in the classroom.
Junior Molly Garrett said, “It’s fine. I got to sleep in for an hour longer, but I don’t really get the point of it.”
Students who arrived at school by bus, ehich ran their regular routes, or at the normal starting time had to remain in the Commons, Library or Gym until classes began.
The next late start day will be Monday, Sept. 24.
