Junior and Graphic Design II student Courtney Baker put her artistic talents to use this semester, winning a poster contest that will ultimately benefit both her and the Rockwood School District.
The graphic design students at all four high schools were given an opportunity to design a poster to advertise the Rockwood School District Art Show. The winning design will be posted throughout all schools in the district.
“They had certain criteria that you had to put in there, like the school and where it’s at and what it is, and then we just had to design [the poster] so that it would attract attention,” Baker said.
The poster Baker designed put an artistic spin on nature.
“It’s like a butterfly, and in the wings it has some information. On one of the antennas, its being drawn by a hand with a paint brush, and a bunch of arrows and designs all over,” Baker explained.
Baker was informed of her winning entry a couple weeks ago of her victory by Graphic Design teacher Elizabeth Morningstar.
Baker was taken by surprise when she found out she was the winner.
“I always work real hard, and I always try to make [my projects] cool and original, and it was really cool that I actually got acknowledged for it,” Baker said.
Not only will the poster be displayed within schools throughout the district, but it may also aid her in the future.
“I can put it on applications for scholarships,” Baker explained.
Baker’s poster will soon be posted throughout Rockwood School District buildings.
