The campaigns, town hall meetings and months of planning all came down to this: Election Day 2010.
For the Rockwood School District, April 6 was a very important election day due to the public’s vote over the 2010 bond issue.
As of 10:29 p.m., with 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Proposition 5 passed by a final margin of 10,922 for and 6,129 against, roughly a 64 to 36 percent margin of victory. A four-sevenths majority (57.4 percent) was required for passage.
Proposition 5 is a $55 million no tax increase bond issue. The bond is titled “SMART” which stands for Safety measures and infrastructure, Maintenance of current facilities, Additions for classrooms, Renovations for instructional areas and Technology infrastructure.
Lafayette specifically will get a number of new items including new computers and the replacement of aged systems, SMART boards for every classroom, portable computers for all full-time teachers and a renovated outdoor stadium including stadium entrance, fencing and restrooms.
In addition, Steve Banton and Janet Strate were re-elected to the Board of Education.
All results are still unofficial.
