In their Feb. 5 matchup against longtime rival Marquette, the Lancers were able to fight through animosity of Mustang fans to come through with a 56-44 win. At the half, the Lancers were up 23-15 before numerous Marquette runs closed the lead to 42-40 with two minutes left.
Senior guard Kyle Swerczek then hit a three-pointer and sophomore Luke Kreienkamp followed with two free throws to seal the deal. Senior Mike Messer led the Lancers with 19 points and junior Aareon Smith added 14. The Lancers are now 12-10 overall, improving to 4-2 in Conference play. The team is scheduled to play next at home against Francis Howell Central on Feb. 9.
