Lafayette performed well in their first meet of their track season. The boys track and field team placing 4th overall they are off to a steady start to having a prosperous season.
The Lancers had some outstanding performances individually, as well as the whole team. Junior Alec Haines grabbed 4th place in the 1600 m, finishing with a time of 4:24.44. Senior Alvin Houston also sped past his competitors with a competitive time of 50.93 seconds. That earned him 3rd place overall in the 400 m.
Senior Keith Sims also displayed his strength and experience in his event by pinching the number three spot in the discus with little to no preparation. Sims said, “I didn’t have a chance to warm up.”
When his position in the lineup changed, placing him to go earlier than he expected, Sims was surprised. But he managed to maintain his stature add some points to Lafayette’s overall score. Despite several solid individual performances, Lafayette was only able to finish in 4th place in the meet.
