Varsity football continues win streak against Marquette and Lindbergh
September 25, 2014
The varsity football team at Lafayette started off on the wrong foot, losing their first trio of games against Eureka, Hazelwood Central, and Kirkwood. Part of the issue was that their schedule was front-loaded, meaning that they faced the most difficult teams they’ll play all year in their first few games.
For now, it appears they’ve gotten back on track, winning their last pair of games against Marquette Mustangs and Lindbergh Flyers.
Last Friday, in the match up against Lindbergh, they captivated their success winning 21-17. This game was a tough win because it was Lindbergh’s Homecoming game, but they played great football and didn’t let that get in the way.
Junior lineman Noah Robinson said, “It was one of the biggest games for them this season, but we didn’t let it get in the way.”
Starting off well, senior Alvin Houston ran a 95 yard kickoff back; but Lindbergh countered, scoring a touchdown and converting a field goal to go up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. Following that, in the second quarter, Lafayette senior Justin Perry ran for a touchdown.
The third quarter was a stalemate, with both offenses failing to score. However in the fourth, Lancers senior receiver Adam Cook found a brink in the Flyers defense, scoring a 69 yard touchdown off a pass from senior Cameron Scales. In the final frame, Lindbergh also scored a touchdown, but it was too late.
