What was your greatest accomplishment this season?
“I would say in the quarterfinal game with double overtime I had my career high with 21 [points],” Savoie said. “That was a really fun game and the one I feel the best about.”
Did making the final four for football have any effect on your experience playing in the final four for basketball?
“Kind of, I would say I knew what intensity to expect. Its a different level than anything else that season. We were making an attempt to avenge the loss of football but it didn’t really go that way,” Savoie said.
Did having the same coach through JV and varsity levels change anything about the team dynamic?
“I wouldn’t say it changed a ton about the team dynamic but I would say, relationship wise, having [coach Don Kreienkamp] my freshman and sophomore year before going into this year helped a lot. I could go up to him, I could ask him whatever, I could make suggestions, which is something that I feel is important,” Savoie said.
What motivates you to play basketball?
“I would say my teammates. The ones who worked with me and put in the effort with me. I didn’t want to let them down and I would say that elevated me and pushed me,” Savoie said.
What goals do you have for yourself for next year?
“I want to get back to the final four. It will be tough but I think that its a goal that we should have,” Savoie said.
What was your favorite sports moment this year?
Savoie was stuck between three of his favorite sports moments this year. The first was the football State quarterfinal upset game against Cardinal Ritter where Lafayette pulled off a 30-18 win against the former Class 5 State champions, on the road. The second he listed was the, previously mentioned, basketball State quarterfinal game against SLUH that ended in a double overtime, 70-64 win over the Billikens. The last he listed was the basketball District championship game against Marquette where the Lancers held the Mustangs to 12 points at halftime in a 76-65 win for the District title.
