Hockey
The post-season hot streak continues for the Lancers. Though they won just three regular-season games, they are undefeated in the post-season. In the semifinals for the Wickenheiser Cup, that meant facing rival Rockwood Summit twice, and the Lancers defeated the Falcons in both games to move on to the Championship. The first game Feb. 25 ended in a 2-1 victory, with senior captain Shane Robinson scoring both goals. On Feb. 26, the Lancers cemented their place in the final with a 2-0 win. Both goals came in the third period, one by senior Luke Carrico and the other by Robinson. Junior Andrew Knapp said, “Our rivalry with Rockwood Summit was reborn once our team was put back in the Wickenheiser division, so we knew the intensity they were going to bring out to win. For us, we played strong defensive games and managed to capitalize on enough scoring chances to get us through to the finals.” He looks forward to the final and said he knows no matter the outcome, the Lancers are ready to give it their all in the rink. “This is the point we’ve been trying to get to as a team this year,” Knapp said. “We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs as a team this year, so for the trophy to finally have the opportunity to be in our hands is exciting.” The Wickenheiser Championship Cup game takes place at 6 p.m. on March 4 at Centene Center against the Priory Ravens. The Lancers go into that game with a record of 10-14-3 and the Ravens stand at 22-6.
