Birds take on Pirates in elimination game

“Go big or go home” never held so much meaning for Cardinal Nation until tonight.
After a big 9-1 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first game in the best-of-5 National League Division Series, the Birds have yet to match that intensity since.
St. Louis Cardinal fans around the country hope the team can pull through to even the series 2-2 so they can play their fifth and final game in Bush Stadium.
This is not the first time the Cardinals have faced an elimination game. In the 2011 postseason playoffs, Lafayette High School alum, David Freese, dominated in the fourth game against Milwaukee in the National League Championship Series.
Freese started his Major League career with the St. Louis Cardinals and he made his debut appearance by successfully completing a sacrifice fly on Opening Day in 2009 against, no other than, the Pirates.
Although the Cards record at PNC Park is anything but perfect, 3-8, the Birds hope that tonight’s game will make that record 4-8.
Rookie Michael Wacha, with a 4-1 winning game record and 2.78 ERA (earned run average), will start and hopefully end the night with the team screaming “HAPPY FLIGHT!”
Game four will be aired at 2:07 p.m. on TBS.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
