After watching the Lancers fall 41-26 to Marquette in the Meramec Tournament on Dec. 27, junior Kyle Glennon had an idea for making things a little less comfortable for the Mustangs when they play at Lafayette on Jan. 14.
The game will be the varsity basketball home opener and Glennon, the Superfans captain, hopes to create a “white out” by selling white T-shirts to students. With the help of Activities Director Steve Berry, Glennon and other Superfans will be selling specially-made shirts at lunch for $7 each until they are sold out.
“We want a good crowd and for everyone to get into it,” Glennon said, ” We want to finally have a hostile environment that Marquette can fear.”
If all goes according to plan, the atmosphere could also re-energize the team now after a 5-6 start to the season.
“It’s something else that we want to do to garner support and have the Superfans stand out. This will be not only for Marquette, but any time we have a white out,” Berry said.
As for halftime entertainment, one Lafayette student will be given the chance to shoot a half-court shot to win a free Apple iPad provided by Student Council. Tip off on is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Before the Lancers take on Marquette, they will look to even their record at Mehlville on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
