Decked out their retro uniforms, the Lancers wrestling team shutout the Mehlville Panthers 83-0 on Feb. 1.
The Panthers had only five wrestlers, which meant nine of Lafayette’s 14 wrestlers had to sit out.
“This match doesn’t determine much; our Lindbergh meet will determine Conference, we have beaten everyone else except them,” senior Connor Edlund said.
Lafayette pinned their way through their opponents, with the exception for senior Ben Westfall, who achieved a technical fall. In wrestling, a technical fall is classified as a victory by at least 15 points.
The 83 – 0 victory was one point away from a perfect score, but the win was not without effort.
“Practice has gotten harder, we have picked up the intensity and done more weight cutting techniques,” Edlund added.
If the Lancers land in the top four at Districts, they are automatically qualified for State. The better they place, the more favorable seed they are given.

[Families] actually having the opportunity to have their kids on the field with us is the most important aspect,” Ben Lundt said.](https://lancerfeed.press/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/IMG_6823-1200x800.jpg)
