The word peaceful is never associated with an intense sport such as baseball. But for senior catcher Jeff Kammer, the fast pace lets him calm down.
“It puts me in my own element, when I’m catching I’m relaxed and in control of everything,” he said.
Kammer has been playing since kindergarten and has fully recovered from surgery on a torn tendon located in his elbow.
“I’ve gotten stronger, put weight on, and recovered 100 percent from the surgery,” he added
As with any athlete, there is always that memorable game that they will never forget. For Kammer, this was the first game of the 2009 season.
“Nate Goro hit a home run, Luke [Voit] hit a double, and on my first pitch of the year I hit a home run,” Kammer said.
With Coach Scott DeNoyer taking over as head baseball coach, Kammer is looking forward to to showing what his team has. The loss of key players Tyler Boraz, Nate Goro and Luke Voit will force the team to adapt.
“Having a new coach is going to change things, we have to keep our team going and there will be no lazyness,” Kammer said.
Being his last year, Kammer is excited about the future baseball could bring him in college.
“I’m looking at Central Florida and West Virginia, I’m not sure yet, we will see how this year goes,” he said.
