Movie-goers looking for a suspenseful, mind-blowing, dramatic thriller to keep them on the edge of their seats needn’t look any further.
Based off of a novel by Dennis Lehane, Shutter Island, a film by Martin Scorsese, was released Feb. 19.
With a plot twist that will leave the audience stunned, Scorsese has created a masterpiece starring actors like Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley.
Set in 1954, the movie is a story of a U.S. Marshal, Teddy Daniels, who is assigned to an investigation at a mental institution on Shutter Island. Though viewers are led to believe his only purpose is to find the murderess that has escaped, it is later revealed that Daniels has a personal motivation to investigate the particular case, as he searches for the inmate responsible for his wife’s death.
The longer Daniels investigates, the more he begins to question what really takes place within the institution, as well as its legality and ethical practices. He soon realizes that in order to maintain his sanity, he must solve the case before the institution staff can convince him otherwise.
As Daniels nears the end of his investigation, Scorsese throws a curveball that will cause the audience to question their own sanity as they leave the theater.
I give Shutter Island a personal rating of four out of five stars, for a great plot, enticing acting, and more suspense than you can handle.
