A rant about the inconsistent play of the St Louis Rams

Arpan Das and Joshua Waitsman

Will the Rams ever find consistency, will they break through to the playoffs, will they win the easy games? Who knows!

Joshua Waitsman: How can the Rams go beat the Seattle Seahawks, one the best teams in the NFL, but go and lose, in convincing fashion, to THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS. I just don’t understand.

Arpan Das: Typical Rams. They play amazing one week, and forget how to play football the next.

JW: I’ll tell you what; they lost for three reasons: penalties, dropped balls and forgetting how to run the football.

AD: The O-Line played terribly. Not that we really expected stellar play, but of Nick Foles 32 pass attempts, he only had 7 attempted passes with no pressure (keep in mind that half of those were screen plays). In addition to that, we only ran the ball 13 times, not what we were expecting out of a percieved “ground-and-pound” team.

JW: I know, and it all starts with the coaching. If Jeff Fisher wants to run the ball, he needs to run the ball. I can give him an exception for last week because of the Rams injury plagued the running core, but 13 rushes regardless is still not enough.

AD: Penalties have also been a consistent problem over the past few (or more than few) years.

JW: Last year, we were the sixth most penalized team in the NFL, which is not what you would expect from a seasoned coach like Fisher. I realize we have one of the youngest teams, but it is no excuse.

AD: Penalties aren’t in as much bulk this year, but they’ve consistently killed momentum of offense. In addition, Jared Cook’s minutes of fame turned into infamy after dropping several passes in crucial moments.

JW: The main problem the Rams face is that when it is time for someone to step up, it always seems to be someone on the defense. When it comes down to it, if the offense can’t step, then the Rams can’t win games. With games against Pittsburgh, Arizona and Green Bay, good luck to the Rams in the next three weeks. They’re gonna need it.
