Last spring I had the privilege of spending the day with Debra Bass, a fashion reporter from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. We spent the day touring the offices, visiting the old printing press, grabbing lunch at Pi Pizza in the Delmar Loop and running around town collecting items for the latest spring photo shoot.
We visited a lot of places to grab clothes and jewelry for the shoot, but one of them stuck out at me: Anjali Kamra’s gorgeous house trunk show featuring her line, Rungloee.
Rungloee’s name comes from “a colorful medallion pattern that rural women in India shape on the ground from chalk, flower petals or colored rice as marks of welcome. Its cheery colors beckon, heralding hospitality and joy,” according to their website.
Kamra, the designer of Rungolee, mixes bright colors and patterns to flatter womens’ bodies. The designs are elegent, sophisticated and full of unique patterns.
According to the Rungolee website, the clothes are realistically priced and made in small numbers, so it would be extremely uncommon for two people to run into each other wearing the exact same frilly top.
She has a factory in India and makes frequent trips to make sure everything is running smoothly and to make personal connections with the workers.
Kamra also travels around the east coast and southern states doing trunk shows to advertise her brand.
My experience at her house trunk show made me fall in love with the brand even more. I walked up to the front door and was greeted with a “Gone With the Wind” staircase and a black and white patterned floor. Each room in the front of her house exhibited her clothes nicely.
We went into the kitchen to discuss what items we wanted for the shoot and I realized how nice Kamra was. From the small encounter I had with her at her house, she seems like the perfect person to run Rungloee. She was fun, energetic and smiley.
Anything from Rungloee would be perfect to wear for a night out to dinner with friends, on vacation at a beach resort or just hanging around the house.
