In the rather common genre of post-modern spoofs, it is hard to truly stand out.
The original Scream (1996) stood out as a smash hit and was followed by several sequels. While Scream 2 and 3 didn’t leave a lasting impact on me, Scream 4 regenerated the thrill of director Wes Craven’s combination of comedy and horror.
Continuing with the initial characters, played by Neve Cambell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, Craven also introduced a new cast including Emma Roberts (who takes on her anti-Disney role with power) and Hayden Panettiere.
It’s a movie about a killer from a movie that was based on a book that was written about the main character of the movie now out. Confusing? Maybe. Worth it? Yes.
There are so many twists and turns in the plot that you shouldn’t head for a bathroom break during the movie or you might miss a key part.
Full of laughs along with startling jumps, Scream 4 trandscends the cheesy modern horror movies and is just as good as the original.
