Written by Nicholas Sparks and Jeff Van Wie, and directed by Julie Anne Robinson, The Last Song may leave viewers with mixed feelings.
A boy-meets-girl love story with a twist, The Last Song is a tale of a troubled teen shipped off with her younger brother to spend the summer with her dad. Though she will spend the next months on the beach, a landscape most teens would love to have out their back door, Ronnie Miller is never satisfied, angry at her parents for divorcing each other and creating instability in her life.
As a young girl, she was a child prodigy on the piano. Her strained relationship with her father progresses as he urges her to continue to pursue her talents, and she escapes the tension by spending time with the local boy who has swept her off of her feet.
But when a devastating twist of fate causes Ronnie to step up to her responsibilities, she experiences a true change of heart.
Australian heartthrob Liam Hemsworth is casted as Ronnie’s boyfriend, and Bobby Coleman is the perfect fit for Ronnie’s younger brother, Jonah. However, the one aspect that seems to offset the movie is Miley Cyrus, herself.
Though she does her best to seem like a rugged delinquent, lost in the world, all I could envision was Hannah Montana in her blonde wig and sparkles.
Her acting was a bit under par, but as a whole, I give The Last Song a personal rating of four out of five stars.
