The Cardinals are playing The Brewers. I am sitting in left field, six rows up from the field. It is a Friday night, and let me tell you, there are tons and tons of drunken 20-30-year-old men.
Now, being so close to the field, we are basically right by the left fielder. When the Cardinals are in the field, this is fine. But when Ryan Braun, The Brewers’ All-Star player, is in the field it’s a whole other story.
“DID YOU GET YOUR BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS THIS MORNING BRAUNNNNNN!?” a man manages to slur and yell at the same time.
Another man followed this by saying either “GREASE ME UP BRAUNNNNN” or “YOU SUCK BRAUNNNNN”.
Honestly, I had no idea. It was that hard to understand. Point being, it was hilarious simply because you knew how far from sober they were.
The thing is, it went on the entire game. And it didn’t help that Braun was not having a good night. He would bobble the ball and the men would go crazy.
Near the bottom of the eighth inning, things went downhill.
A middle-aged woman sitting a row in front of the guys proceeded to fling up out of her seat, spin around in a fury and then began screaming at the top of her lungs at the hecklers.
“IT’S EVERYONE’S GAME. YOU NEED TO SHUT UP! YOU PIECES OF ……!” All of this was heavily spiced up with some choice words as well.
Did I mention the woman was a Cardinals fan?
Yes, I like some drama. Yes, it is fun to watch people argue over tiny things like this. I mean, it was also goofy to see five Cardinals staff try to figure the situation out. But this woman, being a Cardinals fan, needed to calm down.
St. Louis is a baseball town. We love the game and we love our Cardinals.
It is fun to make fun of other teams. And, those guys weren’t cussing or saying anything rude. They were just being drunk guys. They were having a good time on a great night at a game that the Cardinals dominated.
It absolutely was not necessary for the woman to get staff involved. Nor did she need to call them the things she did. What the woman said was much more offensive than what the guys said.
The game was not affected by their words, because really there were hundreds of guys like that all around the stadium. There always are.
So Cardinals fans, let’s take a stand for the guys just having fun at the game, because they probably can’t stand up (without falling over) themselves.
So happy base-balling St. Louis!
