Rockwood Rocks: local musical festival to showcase talent, raise awareness
Lafayette will once again be hosting the Rockwood Rocks community event on Nov.23 . This event allows bands from all over the Rockwood School District to put on their own show while supporting drug-free and alcohol-free entertainment.
Rachel Uebelein, senior, assisted in preparation by getting all of the bands together and preparing a lineup. She also took over as the stage manager for the night of the event.
“Rockwood Rocks is put on by the Rockwood Drug-Free Coalition. It shows people that there are ways to have fun other than going out and drinking or doing drugs,” Uebelein said.
There will be a range of all types of music at Rockwood Rocks, but Uebelein recalls the most prompt music genres of the performing bands.
“Most of the bands are more of a pop/punk and others are rock or classic rock,” Uebelein said.
Currently, there are 12 bands that are performing at Rockwood Rocks while three more are interested in performing as well. Each band is allotted 15 minutes to play, or in other words, three songs. However, each band may get more time depending on if every band shows up.
This event will take place in the Lafayette commons at 7:00 p.m. and the general admissions are $5, which includes food and beverages.
“Rockwood Rocks is a great way to get the community together to enjoy music and recognize the dangers of drugs and alcohol,” Uebelein said.
