Undefined returns from workshop in Chicago

Members of Lafayette’s improv team Undefined went on a trip to Chicago from Jan. 13 to Jan 14. There, they attended workshops with professional comedians from notable Chicago comedy groups iO and The Second City.

“Chicago was a really awesome experience. We got hands-on interactions with professional improvers, and we just really got closer as a team, which is probably the most important thing,” Undefined captain Abby Mirikitani said.

Drama teacher and Undefined sponsor Natasha Fischer said that the team goes to Chicago every year and that it is one of the team’s favorite things to do.

Many famous comedians, such as Stephen Colbert, Tina Fey, Chris Farley, Bill Hader and Mike Myers have performed or taught at iO, and Steve Carell, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Amy Poehler and Dan Aykroyd all have performed or taught at Second City.

“I’ve always loved comedy, and whenever I’m on stage I always feel really confident,” sophomore Olivia Kalamboukas said.

Improv students feel they learned valuable life experiences from the recent trip.

“It was very fun and a huge learning opportunity, as well as a great way to build the team’s skills as a group,” sophomore George Reich said.
