College counselor, Cheryl Egan, represents multiple colleges by putting flags on her office wall.

Every year, the Rockwood and Parkway School Districts have a college fair at Queeny Park. This year, it will take place on Sept. 18 at 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

There are over 100 college representatives in the building with information tables, allowing students and their families to learn more about their possible future schooling. Usually the tables are in alphabetical order, and each table will have at least one representative that will be able to answer questions and provide information about their colleges’ different courses.

Cheryl Egan, one of the college counselors at Lafayette, said, “Primarily [the college fair] is to just collect information about what college options are available”.

Having a major in mind is going to be a benefit because colleges will be able to give specific information based on that major.

Although the college fair has various colleges, some of the tables do crowd up quickly.

“Usually the public state schools crowd up fast, and some of the schools that are strong in medical and engineering areas are going to get a little busy” Egan said.

For students interested in these areas, she suggests to go to to those tables first, so they can get a chance to ask their questions.

Egan’s advice to students going to these events is, “Whatever is important to you [as a student], that’s what you want to make sure you’re getting answers to when you’re meeting with the admission representative from the school”.

Lafayette High School also has a college and career information night on Sept. 19 at 6:30 pm in the theater.

According to Egan, “The college night will give you more process kinds of information like the application process and what kinds of scholarships are available”.

Not only will the college night cover academics scholarships, but athletic recruiting as well.

She said, “Someone will be there to talk about NCAA, D1, D2 and beyond”.
