Senior year typically consists of students counting down the months, weeks, days, hours, minutes and even seconds until their high school career is complete.
Students usually do not think that their intelligence will be recognized any other place besides at the Academic Pep Assembly in the beginning of spring.
However, for seniors Seth Ludwig and David Wang, their academic accomplishments have been recognized on a national level. Ludwig and Wang were selected as candidates in the US Presidential Scholars Program.
This program recognizes students for their superior academic and artistic achievements, as well as their leadership qualities, good character and extracurricular activities.
“It started out as just our GPA and standardized test scores being considered, but after we were nominated it becomes much more,” Ludwig said.
Ludwig and Wang were required to write an essay after their nomination, in hopes of standing out from the rest and gaining entrance into the US Presidential Scholars Program.
It is one of the highest honors high school seniors can receive; Ludwig and Wang wait for the selection to take place in April.
“It’s nice to finally be recognized for my hard work,” Wang said.
