With the proclaimed ‘snowpocalypse’ right around the bend, there are two words in the back of everyone’s mind: SNOW DAY.
However, the Rockwood School District has five snow days built into the district, and four have been used to date.
That being said, additional days will be added onto the schedule if multiple school days are cancelled, pushing the school year into as far as June.
Seniors will not be affected by the cancellations, for the date of graduation, May 20, 2011, cannot be changed.
When asked how she felt about the predicted weather conditions, senior Caroline Bartelsmeyer responded with, “Do you really have to ask?”
Yet underclassmen do not feel quite the same way. With school days being extended into the summer months, some families face interruptions in vacation plans.
Junior Sarah Young fears that her plans may be affected.
“I have to see my dad this summer in the United Arab Emirates,” she said.
“So if we get extra days, I might not get to see him as long, and I haven’t seen him since November,” Young continued.
Some are already proposing alternate solutions in order to avoid a prolonged school year.
“We should have lunch on the days we have finals so that they will count as full days,” junior Mary Savala said.
Only time will tell how the school year will be affected. Make sure to follow lhsimage.com for updates on the ‘Snowmageddon.’
