Whether you get it for the sparkly band aid, the protection or because your mom made you, everyone gets shots.
They’re a necessary part of maintaining your health and building your immune system. So ready or not, flu shots are right around the corner.
School nurse Sue Brennan said, “Flu shots will be given at Lafayette on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 3-5 p.m. in Room 180.”
Consent forms are needed in order to get the shot and must be signed by a parent.
There are two types of the influenza vaccine: the nasal spray (mist), or the flu shot.
The nasal spray contains a live but weakened influenza virus that is sprayed into the nostrils. The flu shot is a killed virus that is given by injection with a needle.
Rockwood Supervisor of Wellness and Health Services Amy Wehr said, “The pricing for employees and immediate family is $20 for the injectable and $30 for the mist.” She continued, “Students and community will pay $28 for the injectable and $38 for the mist.”
This is also a fundraiser because $3 from each shot will go back to the host building.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said, “A vaccine, like any medicine, could possibly cause serious problems, such as severe allergic reactions. The risk of a small vaccine causing serious harm, or death, is extremely small.”
