Each year there seems to be a new super virus or health scare. Last year’s H1N1 is expected to return again this year during flu season.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over the age of six months receive the flu vaccine.
According to the CDC website, the vaccine is important because it “will protect against three different flu viruses: an H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season.”
The Rockwood School District will be hosting flu vaccine clinics from September through November at various school sites.
Lafayette will host a clinic on Oct. 11 from 3-5 p.m. The vaccine is available to students, staff and community members at the following costs: Rockwood employees and immediate families: $20, Rockwood students and community members: $30 and a FluMist vaccine is available for an additional $10.
The vaccine will protect from the H3N2 virus, an influenza B virus and the H1N1 virus that caused so much illness last season.
